A little bird told us that there’s a Vietnamese restuarant in Grantsburg. Yes, a Vietnamese restaurant in Grantsburg! Ari and I had to try it out – especially after they faxed their menu and we saw all of the traditional favorites. WOW was it good. We have an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Grantsburg!
Just a disclaimer – you’ll notice from this post that I get very excited about good food, and really excited when it’s in my backyard and I don’t have to drive to the Cities.
The restuarant is called Little Cam Ranh Bay. It’s co-owned by Tammy – here’s a picture of Tammy….
You can kind of see from the background of the photo that the decor of the restaurant is really very nice. and not what you usually see at an asian restuarant. The old building isn’t very good in the insulation department, so they’re just using the side room with space heaters for now.
Needless to say we’re starving since we had time to examine their menu all afternoon. We ordered vegetarian egg rolls and fresh spring rolls right away while we decided on the main entrees. They have a lot of vegetarian options – even vegetarian spring rolls using mock duck
It was hard to decide on the entrees – everything looked good! They have the traditional Chinese favorites, but we wanted to go with more of the Vietnamese standards. I chose the Hot & Spicy Mock Duck with Lemon Grass ($6.95)
My husband, Terry, had the Curried Shrimp which was very good ($10.75)
The Vietnamese offer something called a noodle salad (it’s one of my favorites). It’s vermicellie rice noodles, shredded lettuce, cucumbers, mint leaves, bean sprouts and the house sauce topped with green onions, peanuts and shredded carrots. I usually order it with the hot vietnamese egg rolls on top, but Ari chose it with mock duck, and she really liked it ($7.25 topped with egg rolls).
Another one of my all time Vietnamese favorites is the traditional Pho (soup), and it’s one of the dishes I use to judge whether it’s a good restaurant or not. It was wonderful – especially if you have a cold. A good Pho has the most marvelous rich chicken broth that you can imagine. It’s a huge bowl of broth filled with rice noodles, and a choice of meats. When you get it you’ll have a plate of bean sprouts, basil or cilantro, a lime slice to squeeze over it, and a dish with hot sauce and hoisin sauce. You put all the extras on top, but go light on the hot sauce if you don’t like spicy. We ordered the combination so it had chicken, beef and meatballs ($7.95)
Our only wish is that we’d love to have Little Cam Ranh Bay in St Croix Falls, but it isn’t, so we all have to spread the word about this great restaurant in our own backyard. Let’s keep them busy!
If you take Hwy 87 into Grantsburg go through the stoplight, and when you hit their main street, the restaurant is right there on the corner. Enjoy!
